YOUR BONES SUPPORT YOU FOR LIFE

TAKE GOOD CARE OF THEM

ARTHO=Joint (Hip or Knee)

PLASTY=Repair

A total knee replacement (arthroplasty) is a common surgery to relieve severe knee pain and restore function when your knee is damaged, typically by arthritis.

Imagine the knee joint as a hinge where the ends of your thigh and shin bones meet, each covered with a smooth layer of cartilage that acts as a cushion. Over time, arthritis can wear this cartilage away, leading to painful bone-on-bone grinding.

During the procedure, a surgeon removes this damaged cartilage and a small amount of bone. They then cap the ends of the bones with smooth, durable metal implants. A medical-grade plastic spacer is inserted between these metal components to create a new, smooth-gliding surface, effectively replacing your worn-out joint.

The goal is to significantly reduce or eliminate your chronic pain, correct leg deformity, and allow you to return to everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs, and getting in and out of chairs with much greater ease. While it’s a major surgery requiring physical therapy for recovery, it is highly successful at restoring quality of life for those with debilitating knee pain.
