September 8 and the Eclipse

September 8 is the feast of Our Lady of Kasilak, Our Lady of the Light.  It’s the birthday of the Blessed Mother. On September 7 (the night before), we experienced a strong raging wind. We call it onos in the dialect. Kinakusugan gyud. Wala abiso nga akong nabasa kabahin sa onos. Kinakalitan sa tanan. That was Saturday night.  The following day, Sunday, people were soothed by the good weather and were ready to watch the total lunar eclipse.

When I was younger, decades back, nobody could go out of the house to watch the eclipse, especially those women who were on the family way. Matud pa sa kara-anan nga pagtoo, dili maayo para sa buntis nga inahan ug sa iyang anak nga gisabak ang pagtan-aw sa “eklepsy”. They said, eclipse is a sign of a bad omen.

Bad omen, indeed, because of the “FLOOD” that has been dominating the country since the past several days. And why is it that the very people who are tasked to protect the interests of the Filipinos are the very ones destroying the foundation of democracy, integrity, and economic stability in our country? Dili ba nga naboking man silang tanan sa ilang mga binuhatan?

We cannot anymore fathom the depth of the greed of contractors, politicians, and their accomplices involved in this gruesome scandal during these present times.

I have heard from dyTR that people have forgotten the problems facing them as they are entertained by the drama on television in both houses:  the Senate and House of Representatives. Yes, we are entertained with a form of comedy that makes us angry. Yes, we always hear them say, “Your honor.”  When we will we ever learn?

Does the lunar eclipse have something to do with all these things? Is the lunar eclipse a bad omen? Is the blood moon?
