Tagbilaran City — Consumers in this City will experience higher electricity bills this September as Bohol Light Company Inc. (BLCI) announced an adjustment in its residential and commercial power rates, pointing to rising generation costs in the electricity spot market as the main driver.
The utility reported that the average residential rate has been set at ₱12.77 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), and for commercial customers, the rate is now ₱12.19/kWh.
Bohol Light stressed that its Distribution, Supply, and Metering charge remains unchanged at ₱0.98/kWh, underscoring that the rate hike stems from factors beyond its direct control.
The company explained that the increase is primarily due to higher generation charges in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). Spot market rates are influenced by supply-demand conditions in the grid, which have been volatile in recent months, resulting in higher costs for distributors and, ultimately, for end-users.
“We understand how important affordable electricity is for every household and business, and we know that any increase in your monthly bill can be a burden,” Bohol Light said in a statement, assuring customers of its transparency.
