The Bearers of Moral Healing
(Erico Joseph T. Canete)
THE WHOLE NATION is besieged by the dreary machinations of corrupt politicians whose rhetorics of innocence prove otherwise. The nation is swarmed by unscrupulous government officials who deviated from the direction of reaching the existential end of society; the common good.
Behold the manipulations of greedy contractors who priced construction materials more than its worth. Check the substandard materials for road and other infrastructure projects. Worst, having the fraudulent schemes of ghost flood-control projects. Everything is done to compensate for huge amount of kickbacks for our lawmakers and other government officials.
Too much!
Amidst all these raucous of corruption and exploitation, and amidst these bellicose attempt for a revolution of change in our country, a man from the far west was silenced due to his moral conviction and spiritual depth; Charles James Kirk.
More than being a right-wing political activist, he was more of a harbinger of moral healing not just in his country but globally, making a morally sound conviction and judgment against too much politicking, abuse of freedom, corruption, violence as a means to an end, misogynistic attitude, same sex marriage, direct abortion, proliferation of fake news, ecological apathy, among others. On the contrary he tried to uphold respect for authority, respect for life, respect for the dignity of human sexuality and gender issues, sanctity of marriage, love for truth, and responsible stewardship.
What’s so touching was his unwavering faith emphasizing on the role of Christianity in man’s spiritual journey towards the Highest Good.
What was his prize? A bullet from his assassin that ended a well lived life.
His legacy did not end by that bullet. His first disciple was his wife Erika Kirk who, during the funeral, made heart warming eulogy to emulate her husband’s exemplary dedication to his wife and children. But in all the things that she said, what summarized it all was, on top of seeking justice, her Christ-like forgiveness extended to the young man who allegedly killed her husband.
The couple is an epitome of hope for moral healing not only to America but globally.
Erika lost a husband but gained the souls of men. Charlie, may the seed of virtue that you planted to humanity, lead us to Jesus and Mary!
Finally, amidst these crises in our country, may we remain morally resilient for the love of our country
