Tagbilaran City rallies for blood donation drive, 41 donors give life

BY GLORIA LEODIVICA INES ARANETA

The Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility (TCPCF), in partnership with the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center Blood Bank and Barangay Cogon, successfully held a Mobile Blood Donation Drive at the City Hall Atrium on September 22, 2025.

The initiative sought to bolster the region’s supply of safe and sufficient blood, with 41 donors stepping forward to contribute to life-saving efforts.

Each unit of blood collected is expected to benefit patients in critical need, reinforcing the city’s continuing drive to expand access to quality healthcare services.

In behalf of the City Government of Tagbilaran, City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc thanked all donors and partner agencies, emphasizing that regular blood donation remains a vital component of a responsive healthcare system.

They also highlighted how such efforts embody the spirit of volunteerism and solidarity among Tagbilaranons.

The activity came on the heels of a major recognition for Tagbilaran City.

Just last week, the city received, for the first time, the prestigious Andres Bonifacio Award from the Department of Health – Central Visayas Center for Health Development, in honor of its exemplary support for voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation.

The Andres Bonifacio Award is one of the highest distinctions granted to local government units that excel in promoting and sustaining the National Voluntary Blood Services Program.

Mayor Jane Yap praised the efforts of the city’s health workers, partner agencies, and volunteers.

Mayor Yap added, “Every drop of blood donated is a lifeline extended to someone in need. Our recent award is proof of what we can achieve when government and community work together, but the true heroes are our donors who give selflessly. Tagbilaran will continue to champion programs that safeguard health and save lives.”

The City Government of Tagbilaran reaffirmed that initiatives like the Mobile Blood Donation Drive will continue to be strengthened, ensuring that every donation brings renewed hope to patients and their families.
