LGU officials in Jagna, Bohol have disputed a social media post claiming landslides hit two barangays, calling for residents to rely only on official channels for information.

In a November 5, 2025 statement, the local government unit (LGU) urged the public to consult only official social media pages and Mayor Louie Monungol’s account to avoid “confusion and fake news.”

The statement came as on-ground assessments by key town agencies were underway mid-morning on November 5.

No official count of those affected by the typhoon, including casualties or damage estimates, had been released.

The LGU called on Jagna town Councilor Anthony Aniscal to clarify his social media post to prevent “confusion and anxiety among the people.”

In the comment section, Aniscal defended his actions, saying he was “merely helping disseminate information as a public official” based on reports from residents of barangays Mayana and Cantuyoc, not creating controversy.

He said several homes were affected but never claimed they were damaged, and wished the LGU had contacted him privately rather than through social media, noting both were helping residents.

Aniscal maintained he was not spreading false information, saying he was providing information as both a public official and media practitioner.

Fissures displace families

Hinterland village Cantuyoc in Jagna suffered ground fissures that displaced several families despite no tremor occurring, barangay captain Geronimo Daguplo confirmed Saturday.

The land cracks displaced around 10 families, who abandoned their homes for safety.

Two families are sheltering at the barangay hall, while others stayed with relatives.

Daguplo said the fissures began early last week and may continue in coming days, attributing the phenomenon to soil softening from continuous heavy rainfall rather than seismic activity.

He said he expects geologists to conduct an assessment after Mayor Mayor Mark Louie Monungolh and the municipal government visited the site.

In barangay Mayana’s sitio Balikbayan (formerly sitio Matunog), another landslide occurred on November 5, barangay chief Servando Acas confirmed.

He did not mention evacuees contrary to reports, but confirmed no one was injured.

Ground cracking and movement can occur without noticeable tremors due to geological and environmental phenomena involving slow, gradual processes or localized ground failure.
