The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday categorically denied social media claims that the K-12 basic education program will be scrapped and Grades 11 and 12 abolished starting School Year 2026-2027.
In an official advisory posted on its verified Facebook page and website, DepEd described the circulating posts as “fake” and “baseless,” stressing that no directive has been issued to discontinue the K-12 program or remove senior high school grades.
“There is no truth to the posts currently spreading on social media about the alleged removal of Grade 11 and 12 for SY 2026-2027,” the department said. “No order has been issued to stop the implementation of the K to 12 program beginning June 2026.”
The false announcements, which included fabricated DepEd letterheads and signatures, claimed some schools had already begun implementing the supposed policy change. DepEd immediately debunked the claims and urged the public to rely only on official channels for accurate information.
The department also warned against the spread of misinformation, noting it could cause unnecessary confusion among parents and students planning for the next academic year.
“Spreading unverified information creates alarm and disrupts preparations for the coming school year,” DepEd said, adding that it would continue to release updates through its official Facebook page, X account (@DepEd_PH), and website (www.deped.gov.ph).
The K-12 program, institutionalized under Republic Act 10533 in 2013, added two years of senior high school to align Philippine basic education with international standards.
No legislation or executive order abolishing the program has been issued as of November 22, 2025.
Local media outlets and fact-checking organizations echoed DepEd’s clarification, with several Facebook pages that originally shared the fake posts taking them down after the official denial.
As of Saturday, no new directives regarding the cancellation or major revision of the K-12 curriculum have been announced by Malacañang or Congress. The program remains in full effect for School Year 2026-2027, DepEd reiterated.
