Bohol Light has issued a warning to consumers who may be misusing electricity. It has also issued a reminder to the consumers for the latter to conserve power.
Jun Monreal of Bohol Light said on Dec 17, 2025, over Newsmakers ug Uban Pa, that it is important to use power correctly and to conserve energy for the safety of everyone.
Under Republic Act No. 7832, penalties await those who are tampering with or using tampered with electrical meter, placement of any apparatus that causes the disruption in the proper registration of consumption on the electric meter.
Tampering with the electric meter may result in a reading lower than what was the actual consumption.
Violators of the law may pay a fine of P20,000 and will pay the bill based on the complied differential amount.
This means the violator will pay for the electricity that was actually consumed during the time when there was tampering withvthat occurred up to the time the violator was caught.
Meanwhile, Monreal said using illegal connections has an impact on consumers as it may add cost to the systems loss.
The total systems loss is divided among the consumers and lowered systems loss means a lowered bill.
Republic Act No. 7932 allows the charging of systems loss to consumers of a distribution utility and the consumers will pay a share of the systems loss.
Bohol Light is appealing to the public to report any suspected illegal or tampered with connections in order for proper action to be implemented..
