Compassion  reigns amidst the storm: Tagbilaran’s Free Medical Mission a success

Thousands of city residents benefited from a free medical mission conducted from February 6 to 8, 2026, through the joint efforts of the No One In Need Foundation, Inc., the City Government of Tagbilaran, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tagbilaran, despite disruptions caused by Typhoon Basyang.

Due to the inclement weather brought by the typhoon, medical services on February 6, 2026 were carried out at various evacuation centers, prioritizing displaced families and residents affected by the storm.

As weather conditions improved, the medical mission continued from February 7 to 8, 2026 at the Saulog Gym, accommodating a larger number of beneficiaries.
The three-day activity provided a wide range of free healthcare services, including adult and pediatric medical consultations with free medicines and vitamins, eye examinations with free reading glasses, blood sugar testing, dental services such as tooth extraction, physical therapy, and circumcision services.

Organizers said the medical mission aimed to bring essential health services closer to residents, particularly those with limited access to medical care, while responding to the immediate health needs of families affected by the typhoon.

Mayor Jane Yap expressed her gratitude to the partner organizations for their support and timely assistance.
“We sincerely thank the No One In Need Foundation, Inc. and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tagbilaran for their compassion and continued partnership. This medical mission has greatly helped our constituents, especially those affected by Typhoon Basyang, and reflects our shared commitment to public service,” Mayor Yap said.

The mayor also acknowledged the dedication of the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility personnel, volunteer doctors, nurses, and support personnel whose collective efforts ensured the smooth and successful implementation of the activity.

The City Government of Tagbilaran reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships that promote accessible, inclusive, and people-centered healthcare services for all Tagbilaranons.

Spreading Love and Service: CGSO’s Volunteerism Week

The Tagbilaran City General Services Office (CGSO) conducted a weeklong volunteerism initiative from February 9-13, 2026 as part of its continuing commitment to community service and civic engagement under the “I Am for Tagbilaran” program.

This year’s weeklong activities began on February 9, 2026, with “I Am for the Children,” a feeding activity at the Candait Day Care Center, spearheaded by the Supplies and Procurement Division.

On February 10, the Asset Management Division led the “I Am for Faith,” a spiritual upliftment activity for Persons Under PNP Custody at the Tagbilaran City Police Station and Persons Deprived of Liberty at the Tagbilaran City Jail.

The volunteer drive continued on February 11 with “I Am for the Community,” a cleanup activity along J.S. Torralba Street, organized by the Motorpool and Transportation Division.

On February 12, environmental stewardship took center stage through “I Am for the Environment,” featuring Project 6300 Tree Growing Activity at the City Agrivet Office in barangay Tiptip, led by the Administrative and General Services Division.

The week concluded on February 13 with “I Am for a Clean Tagbilaran,” a cleanup activity at the City Hall compound, participated in by all City Government employees.

This volunteerism program, conceptualized by CGSO Head Dr. Chris John Rener Torralba in 2020, has become an institutional activity of the office and is held every February, symbolizing the spirit of service and compassion during the month traditionally associated with love.

The volunteerism activities directly support Mayor Jane Yap’s programs, including Project 6300, which encourages city employees to actively engage in tree growing and environmental protection, as well as sustained cleanup initiatives aimed at maintaining cleanliness in city streets and public areas.

Through the continued implementation of the “I Am for Tagbilaran” program—both during the annual February observance and year-round—the City General Services Office continue to advance people-centered governance  promoting a cleaner, greener, and more compassionate Tagbilaran City.
