Ex-Anda mayor open to political comeback

Former Anda Mayor Metodio “Dodong” Amper said he is open to a political comeback, telling radio station DYTR he has slowed his business activities and is now focused on public service.

Amper, who served two three-year terms as Anda mayor, made the remarks in an interview with broadcast journalist Ardy Araneta-Batoy.

He said that as long as he is needed, he is willing to run, adding there is no turning back for him as a politician.

The former mayor lost his 2022 reelection bid to Angelina Simacio.

He challenged Simacio again in 2025 but again came up short in the rematch.

Amper and his camp contested the results of the 2025 race.

Now based in Manila where he manages his business interests, Amper said he still finds time to return to Bohol, particularly to his hometown of Anda.

He said being Boholano, he misses the warmth of the province and remains concerned about his hometown, a sentiment he described as driving his desire to serve.

He said those in power must ensure that the right services and support are effectively delivered to the people.

On national economic policy, Amper expressed reservations about proposals to scrap excise and value-added taxes, saying the move may not be prudent as it could reduce government revenue needed to fund public programs.
