∙ from Gerard Mark Buma-at: Restitution vs. Criminal Liability I think the law separates these into two distinct buckets: Civil Liability: This is the obligation to return the stolen money (restitution). Paying it back satisfies this part. Criminal Liability: This is the punishment for the act itself (imprisonment, fines, etc.). Returning the money does not or should not stop the criminal prosecution.

For now, since they have not returned what was stolen, we’ll just call them “buwayas”
