The City Government of Tagbilaran has secured a key partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) for the construction of additional public school classrooms, following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) held on May 5, 2026, at the DepEd Central Office in Manila.
The agreement, signed with DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, provides for the direct download of funds to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tagbilaran City, a mechanism expected to accelerate implementation and ensure faster delivery of classroom projects in the city’s public schools.
Mayor Jane Yap welcomed the development, describing the agreement as a significant step in addressing classroom shortages and improving learning conditions for public school students in Tagbilaran City.
The direct fund transfer arrangement will allow the LGU to immediately undertake planning and construction, reducing delays typically associated with multi-layered implementation processes.
Mayor Yap expressed gratitude to Secretary Angara and the Department of Education for their continued trust in the city government, noting that the partnership strengthens Tagbilaran’s capacity to respond to education infrastructure needs.
She also said that additional classroom projects are expected to be rolled out in coordination with First District Congressman John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II, further expanding the city’s investment in education facilities.
The mayor said that education remains a core priority of her administration, anchored on Tagbilaran’s “from womb to tomb” development framework, which supports citizens across all life stages—from early childhood education to higher learning.
She likewise highlighted the city’s zero-loan fiscal policy, saying it enables Tagbilaran to pursue large-scale social and infrastructure programs while maintaining financial stability.
The MOA signing in Manila marks another milestone in Tagbilaran City’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public education infrastructure, positioning the city as a proactive local government unit capable of efficiently managing nationally supported development programs.
