Batuan Vice Mayor Antonino Jumawid (in photo) reported on July 1, 2026 that DILG Region 7 reminded LGUs of strict limits on cockfighting. DILG-7 Regional Director Leocadio Trovela stressed that LGUs cannot relax national rules. Under the law, cockfighting is generally allowed only on Sundays, legal holidays, and during local town fiestas for not more than three days. Special cockfights are capped at three (3) occasions per year per LGU, not more than three days per occasion, and require sanggunian request and approval by the Provincial Director of the Philippine National Police (Contributed photo).
