Tagbilaran launches 52nd Nutrition Month with focus on food and environment

The City Government of Tagbilaran, through its Primary Care Facility and in partnership with the City Nutrition Council, officially launched the 52nd Nutrition Month Celebration on July 3, 2026.

The opening was held at the Tagbilaran City Hall Atrium.

This year’s theme is “Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan,” which highlights the link between proper nutrition and environmental sustainability for healthier communities.

The program began with a Nutrition Month Prayer led by Ms. Joan Ganub, Assistant City Nutritionist.

This was followed by the Opening Remarks from City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc.

City Administrator Alvin Luis Acuzar delivered an Inspirational Message on behalf of City Mayor Jane Yap.

Participants also joined a Nutrition Education session conducted by City Nutritionist Rey Delos Santos.

Ms. Juliet Olalo, CLGOO, led the Nutrition Month Pledge to reaffirm the community’s commitment to proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

After the program, food packs and milk supplementation were distributed to pregnant mothers and toddlers who participated in the activities.

The distribution shows the city’s ongoing efforts to improve maternal and child nutrition.

In an interview, Mayor Jane Yap called on all Tagbilaranons to support the city’s nutrition initiatives.

She emphasized that proper nutrition is essential for building healthier families and a more resilient community.

The mayor noted that good nutrition during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life lays the foundation for lifelong health, learning, and productivity.

She urged parents, barangay leaders, schools, and partner agencies to work together in promoting healthy eating habits.

She also stressed the importance of ensuring nutrition programs reach every household.

According to the mayor, investing in nutrition today is an investment in the city’s future.

As part of the month-long celebration, all barangays in Tagbilaran City will hold their own Nutrition Month launching activities.

They will also conduct nutrition education sessions and community-based programs, which will end with culmination activities.

The city has scheduled a Buntis Congress on July 27, 2026.

A Nutrition Month Culmination Program will also be held at the end of July.

Tagbilaran welcomes 5 new wellness and retail shops

Tagbilaran City’s local business landscape continues to expand with the opening of five new establishments.

The new businesses signal sustained investor confidence and growing consumer demand.

They also strengthen the city’s position as Bohol’s commercial and service hub.

The newest additions to the city’s business community are Flex & Flow Pilates Studio, Happy Thoughts Shop, Blinds Soothing Massage Services, Alva’s Chicharon and Fried Chicken, and the Women’s Association Dao Sari-Sari store.

These establishments represent investments in the wellness, retail, and personal services sectors.

Flex & Flow Pilates Studio marks a first for Tagbilaran City as its inaugural dedicated Pilates facility.

It is located on the third floor of the Amani Building along C.P.G. Avenue.

The studio offers fitness and wellness programs designed to promote strength, flexibility, and overall health.

Happy Thoughts Shop has opened on the Lower Ground Floor of Alta Citta Mall.

The shop expands the city’s retail offerings with party supplies, gifts, and event essentials.

It caters to both individual customers and events organizers.

Blinds Soothing Massage Services has also opened on the Lower Ground Floor of Island City Mall.

The establishment provides therapeutic massage services.

It also promotes inclusive employment by creating livelihood opportunities for visually impaired therapists.

Adding to the city’s thriving food industry, Alva’s Chicharon and Fried Chicken which recently opened along Thomas Cloma Avenue in Barangay Taloto, across St. Peter Mega Chapel. It offers dining option for residents and visitors alike.

The city also witnessed the opening of the Women’s Association Dao Sari-Sari Store, a community – based enterprise that aims to provide additional livelihood opportunities for members of the local women’s association while it brings affordable basic commodities closer to residents.

Mayor Jane Yap said the continued entry of new businesses shows private sector confidence in Tagbilaran’s investment climate.

She added that it reflects the city’s sustained economic growth.

“These new investments are indicators of a healthy local economy,” Mayor Yap said.

“Every business that opens creates employment, stimulates local spending, and expands opportunities for our residents,” she added.

“We remain committed to making Tagbilaran a city where businesses can thrive and where economic growth translates into better opportunities for every Tagbilaranon,” she further said.

The business openings also coincide with Tagbilaran City’s Diamond Jubilee celebration.

The timing highlights the city’s continued economic momentum as it marks six decades of growth and development.

Tagbilaran prepares for 2026 Measles-Rubella immunization drive

The City Government of Tagbilaran has intensified preparations for the 2026 Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity and the School-Based Immunization Program.

A coordination meeting was held on July 7, 2026 at JJ’s Seafood Village regarding this matter.

The meeting was jointly organized by the Department of Health-Central Visayas Center for Health Development, the Bohol Provincial Health Office, and the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility.

Barangay officials, healthcare workers, educators, and community partners attended to strengthen coordination for the citywide vaccination campaign.

The campaign is scheduled from August 10 to September 4, 2026.

City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc emphasized the importance of collective action in protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Health officials also presented the campaign’s objectives, local immunization accomplishments, and operational strategies to achieve high vaccination coverage.

The Department of Health said the campaign aims to curb the transmission of measles and rubella, especially among unvaccinated children.

Under the program, all children aged six to 59 months will receive the Measles-Rubella vaccine free of charge.

This will be given regardless of their previous vaccination status.

Mayor Jane Yap urged parents, barangay leaders, schools, and community volunteers to support the campaign.

She stressed that protecting children through vaccination is a shared responsibility.

“By working together, we can ensure that every eligible child receives the protection they need against preventable diseases,” Mayor Yap said.

“A healthy child means a healthier and more resilient Tagbilaran,” she added.

City officials expressed confidence that stronger collaboration among stakeholders will help ensure the successful implementation of the 2026 immunization campaign.

They said this will help safeguard the health of Tagbilaranon children.
