BOHOL, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), in partnership with Procter & Gamble (P&G) Philippines, has completed the establishment and turnover of handwashing stations to five public schools in the province, strengthening access to proper hand hygiene and helping create healthier and safer learning environments for students.
The handwashing stations were established at Bulilis High School in Ubay, Limokon National High School in Dimiao, Nabuad Inabanga High School, Cansague Norte San Isidro Elementary School, and Tugnao Elementary School in Pitogo Island.
Each facility provides multiple handwashing points designed to accommodate students and school personnel and encourage regular handwashing with soap as part of their daily routine. The initiative forms part of the continuing commitment of PRC and its partners to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene or WASH programs.
The Philippine Red Cross has consistently emphasized that proper handwashing with soap is among the simplest, most effective and affordable ways of preventing disease. The partnership also builds on the shared advocacy of P&G Philippines and PRC to promote proper hygiene and expand access to sanitation products and wash-enabling environments, particularly among communities that can benefit most from improved hygiene facilities.
According to Emmanuel C. Pilayre, Administrator of the Philippine Red Cross Bohol Chapter, the project represents more than the construction of physical facilities.
“These handwashing stations are investments in the health and future of our children. Through the generosity and partnership of Procter & Gamble Philippines, we are providing our schools not only with facilities, but also with an opportunity to develop proper hygiene habits that our students can carry with them throughout their lives.”
PRC Bohol expressed its gratitude to Procter & Gamble Philippines, the Department of Education, participating school administrators and teachers, local partners, volunteers, and communities who contributed to the successful implementation of the project.
With the turnover of the five facilities, the responsibility now extends to the beneficiary schools and communities to ensure that the stations are properly maintained, supplied with water and soap, and continuously utilized by students.
