The City Government of Tagbilaran has intensified its Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity or MR-SIA after giving 490 booster doses to children on August 10-11, 2026.
The move aims to strengthen protection against measles and rubella amid confirmed cases in Bohol.
The intensified campaign followed the official launch of “LIGTAS TIGDAS” MR-SIA 2026 on August 10, 2026 at the Tagbilaran City Hall Atrium.
The program is being implemented by the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility or TCPCF in partnership with the Department of Health–Central Visayas Center for Health Development and the Bohol Provincial Health Office.
The launch was attended by health officials, healthcare workers, community partners, parents, and families.
It reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to protect children from measles and rubella.
Health officials said the supplemental activity provides an additional booster dose after routine vaccination.
It is intended to close immunity gaps that may leave children vulnerable to infection.
The drive comes as Bohol has recorded two confirmed measles cases, with several other suspected cases still under laboratory verification.
City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc stressed that measles remains a serious public health threat due to how easily it spreads.
“Measles spreads easily through the air and can cause severe complications, particularly among young children. Vaccination is one of the safest and most effective ways to prevent outbreaks and protect our communities. We encourage parents to complete their children’s immunization schedule and seek guidance from qualified healthcare professionals whenever they have concerns,” Dr. Pondoc said.
The city government also appealed to parents to be cautious of false or misleading information circulating on social media.
It emphasized that unverified claims can discourage families from availing themselves of proven preventive health measures.
Mayor Jane Yap urged families to prioritize the health and safety of their children by supporting the immunization campaign.
“Protecting our children is a shared responsibility. We understand that parents want the best for their families, and we encourage them to make informed decisions based on scientific evidence and the advice of trusted healthcare professionals. By choosing vaccination, we are helping protect not only our own children but also the entire community,” Mayor Yap said.
The city government also expressed gratitude to healthcare workers, barangay officials, volunteers, and parents who continue to support the campaign.
It noted that community cooperation is essential to prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.
