The City Government of Tagbilaran distributed 10 kilos of premium rice to each public school teacher under the Tagbilaran City Schools Division on September 4, 2026.
The distribution was part of the city’s celebration of Teachers’ Day.
It was held at the City Central Elementary School, where Mayor Jane Yap personally led the activity and met with teachers during the occasion.
The rice assistance was part of the city government’s continuing support for public school teachers.
It complements the monthly city allowance provided to educators.
Mayor Yap said the city’s appreciation for teachers goes beyond words, with tangible assistance and programs intended to support their welfare and help improve the learning environment for students.
One of the city government’s current priorities is the construction of additional classrooms to address the shortage of learning spaces and gradually reduce shifting schedules.
The shortage has at times resulted in students and teachers having to attend classes beyond regular hours and going home late.
The city government is working with the Department of Education under the leadership of Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara and First District Congressman John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II to pool resources and expand support for schools, teachers, and students.
The additional classrooms are intended to provide more adequate learning spaces and help ease the challenges brought by classroom shortages.
The city government said the Teachers’ Day initiative reflects its commitment to recognizing the contribution of educators through programs that provide practical assistance while addressing the needs of both teachers and learners.
