Will There Still Be A Rainbow in the Sky?

Noah’s Arc

Every child knows the story of Noah. We may not have had many books when we were young, but this story from our catechism was indelibly imprinted in our hearts.

It was a covenant. After the great deluge that cleansed the earth, God promised Noah He would never again punish the world with flooding. And to seal that covenant, He placed a rainbow in the sky — that beautiful arch of color that appears after the rain, when the sun’s rays begin to glitter through the clouds. It has always been a child’s delight. A sign of hope. A promise that the storm is over.

But what about now?

2025 and 2026 have been horrible years for us. Floods here, floods there, floods everywhere. Houses submerged, livelihoods washed away, lives lost. And we know in our hearts: this is no longer an act of God. This is an act of men. Men who were supposed to serve and govern. Men who have become the ravens of our society.

Remember the story? In Noah’s time, Noah first sent a raven to see if the waters had receded and if it was safe to return to land. But the raven did not return to the ark. Instead, it stayed behind, busy devouring the dead carcasses scattered on the ground. Days later, Noah sent a dove. And the dove, with the pureness of its heart, came back bearing a fresh olive twig — a sign that life was beginning anew, that there was hope on dry land.

And then, there was a rainbow in the sky.

Are we not living this allegory today?

The ravens among us — those in power — have forgotten their mission. Sent to survey the land and make it safe for the people, they instead feast on the spoils, devouring what little is left while the nation drowns. They cover their crimes with sugarcoating, with press releases and promises, calloused to the cries of the people they vowed to serve.

At this point in our lives, can we simply look away? Can we allow them to trample upon our rights, to flood us with lies while the real floodwaters rise?

From The Poseidon Adventure, I have always believed — there is always a morning after. No matter how dark, how overturned, how hopeless the night seems, morning will come.

The question is: when that morning comes, will we still deserve to see the rainbow?

A proof of man-made neglect
