“Reflecting on who we are as a people is an important component of what Bohol will be in the years to come,” Cong. Edgar Chatto said on the evening of July 23, 2021, during the Sandugo sa Sining 2021 held at the Punta Cruz Watch Tower compound in Maribojoc town.

He lauded the continuing cultural renaissance program and its prime movers for the successful holding of Sandugo sa Sining 2021, which he described as a fitting showcase of what Bohol is as a people.

The medley of theatrical performances included: Soul of Place – that featured the Loboc Children’s Choir, Mangayaw – a music and dance excerpt from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Quincentennial Voices – a collage of monologues featuring Kasing Sining Teatro Bohol Ensemble, and the Sandugo ritual re-enactment.

These performances centered around this year’s theme “Mamugnaong Bohol alang sa Bol-anong Kahimsog” that seeks to invigorate possibilities in the promotion of Bohol and educating its people on the richness of the province’s arts and culture heritage assets.

Chatto brought with him to the performances his wife and Balilihan Mayor Pureza Veloso- Chatto and daughter Atty. Esther Patrisha Chatto.

He called the performances as an activity truly encompassing of the Bohol Day celebration, Sandugo, and the quincentennial anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the world.

On Bohol Day, July 22, 2021, along with Gov. Arthur Yap and Vice Gov. Rene Relampagos, Chatto met with National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Chairman Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso and Executive Director Al Ryan Alejandre and National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Senior Historian Ian Alfonso.

The guests attended the Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage (BACH) Council‘s round table talk on culture and arts development, according to reports.

Chatto said Bohol’s pursuit of development must be guided by its vision that emphasizes upholding culture and heritage.

“Our culture and heritage bind us as a people in our beloved Bohol. Pride of place, pride of culture and heritage, pride of people- these we should continue to nurture for generations to come,” he stated.
