All That You Need to Know About Dental Fillings
(Part 2)
Let us now tackle the steps involved in the filling in of a tooth.
Allow me to start with the use of anesthesia.
The area of the mouth will have to be numbed first with the use of anaesthesia. The dentist will first inject local anaesthetic into one’s gum to make the area around your tooth insensitive to pain as the affected tooth is filled with filling materials.
The next step involves the dentist using a drill to remove the decayed material of the tooth since the filling won’t be able to stick to the tooth if there are decayed materials sitting around. The dentist might use a laser or abrasion instrument, as well.
The ability to fill the tooth depends on the dentist’s experience and training.
The extent and location of the decay may impact decisions of the dentist when treating the tooth.
Afterwards, the dentist should test the affected tooth and its cavity or damage to know if all the decayed material has been removed.
It is only after the healthy parts of the tooth are left will the dentist prepare the missing space for filling purposes.
We will continue next week with the steps involved in the use of filling to help save a tooth.
