Bohol’s local government units (LGUs) convened yesterday to discuss solid waste management.

The meeting, led by Jovencia Ganub, head of the Bohol Provincial Environment and Management Office (BPEMO), allowed LGUs to update each other on their respective 10-year solid waste management (SWM) plans.

LGUs also discussed the proposed Talibon Sanitary Landfill, which is being funded by the World Bank Sustainable Inclusive and Resilient Tourism (SIRT) project.

The Provincial Government of Bohol, under Governor Aris Aumentado, is committed to strengthening solid waste management initiatives as part of its Strategic Change and Development Agenda on environmental protection.

“We need to work together to address the challenges of solid waste management,” said the Provincial Government in a statement. “We need to ensure that our waste is properly disposed of, and that we are protecting our environment for future generations.”

The meeting was a productive one, and the LGUs agreed to collaborate on a number of initiatives to improve solid waste management in Bohol. These initiatives include:

  • Developing and implementing comprehensive SWM plans
  • Increasing public awareness about SWM
  • Providing financial and technical assistance to LGUs
  • Promoting sustainable waste management practices

The LGUs are committed to working together to make Bohol a cleaner and more sustainable province.
