Bohol First District Congressman Edgar M. Chatto on
Friday lauded the appointment by President Bongbong
Marcos of Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner as Chief of Staff of the
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Chatto expressed confidence in the capability and sterling
record of Brawner to undertake the responsibilities as AFP
chief.
“I am confident that Gen. Brawner will continue to serve
the AFP and the country with distinction,” Chatto said in a
statement.
“He has a proven track record of leadership and
competence, and he is a true patriot. I am sure that he will
lead the AFP to even greater heights,” he added.
Brawner had served Bohol as Commanding Officer of the
2nd Special Forces during Chatto’s term as governor.
During his time in Bohol, Brawner worked closely with
Chatto to implement the Countryside Development
Program-Purok Power Movement (CDP-PPM).
The CDP-PPM is a community development program that
aims to bring down poverty in the province. It is based on
the principle of “purok power,” which means that the
people at the grassroots level are the ones who are best
equipped to identify their own needs and find solutions to
them.
Brawner and Chatto worked together to harmonize the
CDP-PPM with the AFP’s Bayanihan program. This led to
the formation of prosperity teams that brought down
services to the people in Bohol.
