DR. BRYAN CEPEDOZA
MEDICAL INSIDER
A Question & Answer Session
with Dr. Bryan Cepedoza
on Climate Change and Lung Diseases
(Part 8)
The Bohol Tribune (TBT): So, what piece of advice
would you like to give to people regarding Climate change
in its relationship to lung Illnesses, Dr.Bryan?
Dr. Bryan Cepedoza: What we should do to help with the
issue of climate change? We should not cut down trees.
Instead, let us plant a trees. Planting trees is a relaxing
moment. The trees also absrob green house gasses like
Carbon Dioxide. They will absorb greenhouse gasses and
trees will give out oxygen. And this kind of oxygen is free.
This is not like the oxygen that we get from the hospital.
Oxygen from the hospital is to be paid by us and it is
expensive. But oxygen that we get from the trees is free.
Oxygen is free from the trees and trees help us minimize
air pollution and carbon dioxide.
The Bohol Tribune (TBT): I agree, Dr. Bryan.
Dr. Bryan Cepedoza: Our trash should not be burned,
too. Burning our trash and other waste materials will
increase air pollution, especially the burning of tires.
Kanang ligid bitaw? Kanang mga ligid sa sakyanan.
Burning these rubber tires has a big, negative, and
hazardous effect on the environment. As you burn these
rubber materials, a lot of chemicals will be produced that
can cause damage to our lungs. As much as possible, we
do not cut down trees. Let’s take care of our trees. Let’s
multiply the trees. We also do not burn our garbage. We
bury our garbage under the ground. Burning things is
always harmful to the environment.
The Bohol Tribune (TBT): We hope people will realize
the dangers of climate change. Dr. Bryan.
Dr. Bryan Cepedoza: We really hope so. Everybody has
to help solve this issue of climate change. We can do a lot
of things to help: from the way we move, to our use of
electricity, to the food we eat – all these can help limit and
reduce climate change. Let us save energy at home. Much
of our electricity and heat is powered by coal, oil and gas.
How can we help? We can use less energy by lowering
your heating and cooling equipment. We can switch to
LED light bulbs and energy-efficient electric appliances.
We can wash our laundry with cold water or hang things to
dry instead of using a dryer. We can also walk if our
destination is not far. We have to understand that our
roads are already occupied by many vehicles and most of
these burn diesel or petrol. Walking or taking a bike for
short distances, instead of driving, will reduce greenhouse
gas emissions – and help our health and environment. (To
