PetroGreen Energy Corp (PGEC), the energy arm of Yuchengco-led PetroEnergy Resources Corp (PERC), on Tuesday switched on its 27-megawatt Dagohoy Solar Power Project (DSPP) in Dagohoy town, Bohol, marking the province’s first solar power plant.

The ceremonial switch-on was attended by local officials, including Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado, 2nd district Congressman Vanvan Aumentado, and Dagohoy municipal officials, as well as Department of Energy Undersecretary Rowena Guevara.

The event signals the availability of Bohol as a site for renewable power projects, aligning with the province’s goal of producing sustainable and renewable power.

The solar power plant, which spans 22 hectares in Barangays San Vicente and Sta. Cruz, features 61,200 solar panels.

The project was first conceptualized during the administration of former Bohol Governor Atty. Art Yap, reflecting the province’s commitment to renewable energy.

The DSPP has successfully connected to the Bohol grid, obtaining the necessary approval from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for energization.

The plant’s power supply is also registered with the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), allowing it to sell electricity to consumers in Bohol and other parts of the country.

The project, which began in 2021 during the term of former Mayor Moloy Apat, is expected to produce 27 megawatts of electricity from its solar panels, contributing to the country’s renewable energy mix.

The Philippines wants to increase its renewable energy capacity to 35% of its total energy mix by 2030, as part of its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

The switch-on of the Dagohoy Solar Power Project is a milestone for Bohol, which is seeking to diversify its energy sources and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.

The province is also set to host other renewable energy projects, including one planned for Ubay town, as it continues to position itself as a hub for sustainable energy development.

The completion of the DSPP is also seen as a boost to the local economy, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in the country.
