Bohol police seize P13M worth of alleged shabu
Bohol police seized a total value of P13 million of alleged shabu from various operations spanning a week ending on Dec 2, 2024.
The police confiscated a total of 1,925.33 grams.
The report from the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) said that there were 22 anti-drug operations that took place from Nov. 25 to Dec, 2, 2024.
The police also arrested 22 drug suspected in various operations in the same period, reports add.
Moreover, BPPO also arrested 44 people in 48 anti-illegal gambling operations in the same time period.
The police confiscated more than P4,000 in alleged bet money, reports add.
In the campaign in loose firearms, the police confiscated 14 firearms and arrested four suspects..
Meanwhile, there were 15 wanted persons who were arrested in the same time period.
Tubigon port intercepts pork products almost every day from Cebu
The K-9 team based in Tubigon port is able to intercept pork or meat products almost every day coming from Cebu, reports say.
The said unit would inspect the cargo and baggage of people coming from Cebu and more often, the said team is able to seize contraband of meat products.
Bohol has been strictly implementing the NO ENTRY instruction and ban of pork and pork products as a measure against African Swine Fever (ASF).
The team often confiscates products such as chicharon, longganisa, lechon, and lumpia.
A source said that the strict implementation of the entry ban is in effect.
The team in Tubigon is composed of three K-9 units with corresponding handlers that go through the baggage and cargo arriving into Tubigon.
There is a unit every shift with each shift lasting for 8 hours, reports add.
Fan hurt in an accident in a Baclayon concert
A male fan was hurt in an accident where he fell from a platform where he stood while attending a concert in Baclayon on Dec. 7, 2024.
The victim was identified as Junrel Abahab of barangay Montaña.
It was learned that the victim attended a concert at the Poblacion area and climbed on to a platform to gain a better view of the concert.
Allegedly, the victim was intoxicated and lost balance after he climbed on to the platform. He then fell to the ground.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital after sustaining injuries but he is now in stable condition.
Loboc Children’s Choir get nominated in Aliw Awards
The Loboc Children’s Choir has been nominated in the 2024 Aliw Awards, according to reports.
The said choir was among the nominees for awards this year, according to the Aliw Awards Foundation.
The said awards for musical talents is now on its 37th year.
The said choir from Bohol has been nominated in the Best Chorale Group category.
The Bohol-based choir will be up against more seasoned and older choirs in the country.
Other nominees include artists such as the Apo Hiking Society, Julie San Jose and Snell of SB-19.
Chatto legacy: Gallares Cortes eyes June 2025 opening
Another Chatto legacy will soon be completed.
Reports say that the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Multi-Specialty Medical Center known as Gallares-Cortes, eyes to open by June 2025.
According to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC) chief, Dr.Miguelito Jayoma, once the Gallares-Cortes opens, it will help decongest the GCGMMC in Tagbilaran.
It is a known fact that the GCGMMC in Tagbilaran often is filled to the brim with patients coming from all parts of Bohol.
If Gallares-Cortes opens, there will be three Bohol hospitals operated by the Department of Health. Aside from GCGMMC and Gallares-Cortes, the other nationally-funded hospital is located in Ubay, the Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Medical Center.
Jayoma said Bohol is lucky to have three nationally-funded hospitals.
The Gallares-Cortes was made possible through legislation forged by Cong. Edgar Chatto.
Thus, GCGMMC and Gallares-Cortes will become two separate entities, according to Jayoma.
Jayoma said the Gallares-Cortes hospital is about 90 percent completed with inspection by health officials slated before the year ends.
Police warn motorists of theft in vehicles
Bohol police have warned motorists of an upswing in theft inside vehicles.
Bohol police spokesman Lt. Col. Norman Nuez said motorists should make sure to park in areas that are visible to CCTV cameras.
The warning comes as a vehicle parked in Baclayon was victimized by a theft carting some valuable inside the vehicle. The said vehicle was parked near the town’s main church.
Baclayon police reviewed CCTV footage and saw how the thief broke the vehicle’s glass and gained entry.
Unfortunately, the CCTV footage was unable to provide a positive identification of the suspect as he was sporting a full-faced helmet.
The suspect was able to cart valuables including some cash.
Meanwhile, in Jagna on Dec. 9, 2024, a parked double cab was victimized by a thief. The said thief was able to easily gain access into the vehicle and carted some valuables.
The daring theft was caught on CCTV camera as the police are now looking for more clues that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
Snake bites lead to child’s death in Alicia
Another case of a snake biting a child leading to death happened in barangay Mahayag, Alicia town on Dec. 9, 2024, reports say.
Reports add the snake bit the victim when the female child went out to gather dried laundry.
The child lived in a rural area near a supposed habitat of wild animals including poisonous snakes.
Apparently, the victim was unable to notice the presence of the poisonous snake that bit her.
Afterwards, the child shrugged the incident but later showed symptoms of snake bite poisoning.
Reports said the child was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
Neighbors hunted down the snake and found the reptile coiled on a table leg inside another home in barangay Mahayag.
The neigbors took the snake and killed it, reports mentioned.
To recall, a female child also died due to snake bite in Loon town in October and the case highlighted the need for anti-venom to be made available in district hospitals.
DAR-Bohol distributes COC to beneficiaries
The Bohol provincial office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) distributed on Dec. 12, 2024, certificates of condonation (COC) with the release of mortgage to beneficiaries.
Reports said that around 1,309 beneficiaries received the said certificates and these beneficiaries are all from Bohol.
The release of the COC is mandated by an order of President Marcos Jr., where top provincial officials will be on hand to distribute the said certificates.
Earlier, the president distributed several COCs to beneficiaries nationwide.
During the initial wave of distribution on Dec. 5, 2024, around 13,504 beneficiaries received the COC.
The government has earmarked more than P939 million to pay off farmers’ debts.
Man injured after getting shot, stabbed
A man was injured after he was shot with the use of an improvised lighter gun and was also stabbed by a neighbor at barangay Anonang, Buenavista on Dec. 10, 2024.
According to the police, the victim was identified as Alderico Duavez, 42, a farmer, of barangay Anonang.
Moreover, the suspect was identified as Pio Torrefel Jr, also residing in the same barangay.
Initial investigations revealed that while the victim and his children were preparing their meal, the suspect, all of a sudden arrived on board a motorcycle
It was alleged the suspect was under the influence of liquor when the incident happened.
The suspect allegedly shot the victim and stabbed the victim after the gunshot.
Neighbors restrained the suspect while some of them brought the victim to a nearby hospital, reports add.
The suspect then fled as the police conducted a hot pursuit operation against him.
The police failed to arrest the suspect as the authorities are still conducting an investigation on the incident.
Habal-habal driver found dead inside own room
A habal-habal driver was found dead inside his own room in Anda town, according to reports on Dec. 12, 2024.
The victim was identified as a certain Michael Castro of barangay Poblacion, Anda.
Reports say that the police were informed about the dead person on Dec. 10, 2024 after a concerned citizen complained to the police an out foil odor emitting from the victim’s room.
A medical officer from the town saw the body already started to decompose and probably was dead for several days already.
The probe on the body concluded that there were no indications of foul play.
Investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death of the victim.
Thief arrested after being caught carting an aircon unit
A thief was arrested in Tagbilaran City after she was caught with an air conditioner she allegedly stole.
The suspect was identified as Eliza Torregosa, 23, of Rufo Hills, Buenavista town.
She was arrested after being caught trying to cart away an air conditioner allegedly stolen from a home in barangay Cogon on Dec. 10, 2024.
It was reported that a concerned citizen heard a commotion next door. Upon inspection, the concerned citizen saw thieves trying to cart an air conditioning unit.
The neighbors caught one of the suspects but the suspect’s cohort was able to escape.
The suspect was taken into custody as appropriate raps will be filed shortly.
NGCP assures no brownout during holidays
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has assured the Boholano public that there will be no power interruptions during the holidays.
According to reports, there is an assurance that no power interruptions are slated during Christmas and New Year’s Day.
With the Cebu-Bohol Interconnection Project already energized, any problems with the Bohol-Leyte Interconnection, power is still guaranteed, the source said.
The Cebu-Bohol has been fully energized and able to deliver power coming from Cebu to Bohol.
This means, gone are the days that Bohol is heavily dependent on power coming from Leyte.
NGCP has plenty of personnel to troubleshoot any issues with the grid lines, the source adds.
The NGCP asks those living the transmission lines to immediately report any tree branch that may cause interruptions or any object that could possibly cause any interruption.
Capitol to wage war vs. Richli?
It seems another war is brewing in another front as it seems the governor may already be getting enough of Richli Water.
In a report, Gov. Aris Aumentado has fired figurative warning shots against Richli Water.
It was reported that Aumentado will block any Richli project if the latter continued to stop the provincial government in implementing its own bulk water projects.
He also chided Richli for going up against local government units’ respective water projects, and seeks that the League of Municipalities of the Philippines would have a unified stance on the alleged opposition initiated by the water utility company.
Aumentado said he was not amused with the moves made by Richli where allegedly the water utility company has opposed the bulk water project of the Capitol funded by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), reports say.
Moreover, Aumentado said the private company has no business in opposing the said project also supported by the World Bank.
The governor also said Richli has no right to oppose the respective water projects of LGUs especially the projects that are already in place.
He said Richli should instead foster harmonious relations with LGUs and avoid opposing projects like what the company did in Balilihan. He added Richli has no right to bully LGUs.
Furthermore, Aumentado said that LGUs issue building permits and it is their right to inspect projects to determine whether or not there have been violations.
To recall, an advocacy group called Bohol Clean Water Alliance, wrote to the IMF about the bulk water project.
Aumentado alleged that the letter was meant to oppose the bulk water project of the provincial government.
Female rebel surrenders to gov’t
A female rebel has surrendered to the government as she gave up a life in hiding while staying as a member of the communist-terrorist group, New People’s Army (NPA).
The rebel voluntarily surrendered to the police during a special operation in Calape town on Dec. 8, 2024.
The police said that the rebel is known by her nom de guerre as alias Nor, 45, of Calape town.
The surrenderee was told to return home while processing her documents as she received benefits coming from the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
Her surrender is a result of the coordination among relevant authorities of the armed forces and the police.
The surrender also got help from the Community Integration and Information Support, the report adds.
The surrender shows how effective the programs of the government in dealing with the insurgency problem are and finally prove an end to the age-old problem, the report quips.
Capitol awaits DA green light to buy ASF vaccine
The provincial government is reportedly awaiting the green light coming from the Department of Agriculture (DA) to proceed in purchasing vaccines for African Swine Fever (ASF).
Sources from the Capitol said that if a huge swine farm would start using the vaccine, the provincial government will wait for the official advice coming from the DA.
Moreover, the province will also observe how the vaccine will affect pigs.
It is uncertain whether there are hog raisers in the region already using the vaccine in their swine, reports add.
There have been no reports whether the vaccine is being used in hog farms in other places outside Central Visayas.
Sources said it would be difficult to store stocks of vaccine but eventually turn out to be ineffective to stop ASF.
Bohol had three instances of ASF infection, which happened in Dauis, San Miguel and in Batuan, all happening in 2024.
The good thing is that the infection has been contained and did not spread widely, meaning Bohol could still claim the status of being ASF-free.
Alleged shoplifter manned inside mall
A suspected shoplifter was arrested after she allegedly tried to sneak out some goods without checking them out with a cashier inside a mall.
The suspect tried to allegedly shoplift on Dec. 9, 2024, items valued at more than P5,000 in a mall located at barangay Dao.
The police decided to hide the suspect’s identity and called her alias Rosa, 43, and a resident of Balilihan town.
It was learned that the security force of the mall turned over the suspect who was caught allegedly shoplifting.
It was learned the suspect was about to leave when she was intercepted by mall security.
The suspect was taken into custody and may face cases in relation to shoplifting.
Construction worker nabbed for alleged illegal drug trade
A construction worker was arrested following a buy-bust operation in barangay Poblacion, Trinidad on Dec. 9, 2024, reports say.
The police detected the suspect to be allegedly engaging in a drug trade. The authorities decided to conduct a sting operation against the suspect.
The suspect was identified as a certain James Carlos Juliano, 28, and known as a street-level individual; of barangay Poblacion, Trinidad.

Seized from the suspect were alleged shabu weighing 0.28 grams and valued at P1,904.
The suspect was taken into custody and may face charges of violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Sierra Bullones police nab drug suspect
Police in Sierra Bullones arrested a man following a drug buy bust in barangay Salvador on Dec. 9, 2024.
The Municipal Drug Enforcement Team of Sierra Bullones in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Bohol arrested the suspect following a sting operation.
The suspect was identified as a certain Rolly Butron, 46; a caretaker, of barangay Lumbay, Pilar.
Seized from the suspect were alleged shabu worth P34,000 and weighed five grams.
Cases of violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 may be filed against the suspect who has been taken into custody by the police.
College student dies in road accident
A college student died in a road accident after his motorcycle collided on to a concrete barrier in barangay delPilar in Pilar town on Dec. 7, 2024, belated reports said.
The victim was identified as Brian Palingcod, 21, of barangay Kagawasan, Pilar.
Investigation revealed that the victim was on board his vehicle and travelling along the national highway from Sierra Bullones to Pilar and he then accidentally collided on to a concrete barrier.
The victim reportedly was not wearing a helmet when the accident happened. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital but was he was dead on arrival.
Illegal numbers game suspect faces raps
Raps have been filed against an illegal numbers game suspect in Tagbilaran, according to reports on Dec. 12, 2024.
The suspect was identified as Joshua Amores, 24, of barangay Pondol, Loon.
Reports say the suspect was arrested by police on Dec. 10, 2024 in barangay Poblacion 3, Tagbilaran City.
He faces charges of illegal gambling, reports say.
According to sources, there are still illegal numbers games in Tagbilaran and other towns in Bohol.
A certain Jagger who allegedly was a former policeman, apparently is backing illegal numbers game in some parts of Bohol.
Allegedly, the illegal gambling backer has connections with some rogue authorities, the source added.
The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office has written the various local government units and the police to go after the illegal numbers game operators.
