Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC) Chief Dr. Miguelito “Mike” Jayoma reported that the hospital served more than 104,000 patients in 2024.

Speaking on DYTR’s “Open Forum” program hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Gloria Leodivica Araneta on April 16, Jayoma detailed the hospital’s performance.

He said 33,805 patients were treated in the outpatient department, which offers free services.

Moreover, 27,991 patients were admitted, with most medical costs covered, although some patients may need to pay out-of-pocket.

Jayoma also reported that 42,856 patients received emergency room consultations.

The hospital’s policy is to serve all patients, even if it means operating beyond capacity, Jayoma said.

Despite social media criticism that the hospital is overcrowded, GCGMMC will continue to serve patients, as mandated by the Department of Health.

As an apex hospital, GCGMMC strives to develop all aspects of healthcare, Jayoma said.

The hospital provided approximately P600 million worth of free healthcare services to patients.

Indigent patients, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities often receive zero-balance billing, thanks to support from the Department of Health and PhilHealth, Jayoma explained.

GCGMMC also serves as a training hospital for students from various institutions, including the University of Bohol, Holy Name University, Bohol Island State University College of Medicine, Silliman University, and Southwestern University, among others.

The Malasakit Center, which has been institutionalized by law, has faced limitations in meeting patients’ needs, Jayoma said.

However, with the help of politicians, the center has been able to continue operating.

Jayoma expressed gratitude for the support from politicians, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Senate, and other agencies, which have helped keep Malasakit alive at GCGMMC.

He hopes this support will continue beyond the elections.
