Calape, Bohol – Amid the town’s celebration of its fiesta honoring Señor San Vicente Ferrer, Calape Mayor Julius Herrera released a public statement today, May 10, 2025, warning of a serious security threat linked to the upcoming May 12 elections.
According to Mayor Herrera, two armed individuals suspected to be hired goons from Mindanao were arrested early this morning by police authorities.
Calape PNP and Camp Dagohoy are yet to issue a statement confirming if such incident is true.
The suspects were found in possession of firearms and live ammunition.
Based on initial reports, both are ex-military personnel from Patag, Cagayan de Oro, and are known professional hitmen with alleged prior criminal records.
Mayor Herrera revealed that the suspects had been staying at the residence of former Mayor Nelson Yu prior to their apprehension.
A third suspect, also reportedly involved, managed to escape and is currently believed to be hiding in Pangangan Island at the residence of a certain Ms. Ellen Troyo.
Law enforcement has since secured the area and is preparing to file charges with a corresponding search warrant.
“This is a serious matter,” said Herrera.
“We will not allow violence to disrupt the peace in our beloved town, especially during this sacred celebration and in the lead-up to the elections.”
Governor Aris Aumentado and the Bohol Provincial Police Director have been informed of the developments.
The two apprehended suspects are now in the custody of the Calape Police Station pending further investigation.
Despite the incident, Mayor Herrera extended his warm greetings to residents:
“Happy fiesta sa atong pinanggang lungsod! Maghinaut ko nga naa mo sa maayong panglawas ug kalinaw sa inyong panimalay. Viva Señor San Vicente Ferrer!”
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations progress.
