This edition of VOX POPULI is featuring the netizens’ reactions, responses and comments to a material from a netizen reposted on the FB wall of the Managing Editor of The Bohol Tribune. This material was about the suspension of classes declared by designated officials on Friday, July 18, 2025 due to the bad weather brought about by typhoon Crising.

The post written by Chandymar A. Batoy was: “I am not blaming anybody. I truly do not wish to point fingers at any individual, department, or group. I am simply sharing an observation that may help us all.

There are situations when, due to rain in the morning, announcements about class suspensions are made. Classes typically start at 7:00 am or 7:30 am, and I have learned that some schools even begin as early as 6:00 am. The challenge arises when the announcement of a class suspension comes at the last minute, after parents have already dropped their children off at school. Sometimes, while parents are already on their way to work, they receive a call to return and pick up their children because of a sudden suspension announcement.

Perhaps this is an area where we can improve. In these modern times, we have communication tools at our fingertips. The critical aspect may be the timing of the decision and the process of coordination. If local authorities or school administrators rely on the latest weather advisory from the relevant government agency, maybe closer coordination and earlier communication are important. I understand that weather updates can be available as early as 4:00 am.

Again, I am not blaming anyone. I am simply and humbly suggesting that all those involved in the decision-making process might benefit from a sit-down and a brainstorm session to explore ways to improve this system for the benefit of everyone.
