Pres. Tirol Exalts Educators at International Teachers’ Day Celebration

DR. VICTORIANO B. TIROL, III

President, University of Bohol

University of Bohol President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III paid tribute to educators during the celebration of International Teachers’ Day on October 2, 2026, at the University Gymnasium, recognizing their enduring contribution to the lives of their students and the broader community.

In his message, Dr. Tirol acknowledged the invaluable efforts of teachers who dedicate much of their lives to caring for others—teaching, guiding, inspiring, encouraging, and helping students discover their potential.

He noted that while the nobility of the teaching profession may not always receive the recognition it deserves, its impact can be measured in the lives it touches, and its legacy can endure for generations.

“Teaching is more than a profession; it is a calling,” Tirol emphasized.

Using the metaphor of temples, Dr. Tirol compared the enduring influence of teachers with magnificent structures designed and built by architects and engineers. While physical structures may eventually fade, their pillars weaken, and their grandeur may someday turn to dust, the legacy of a teacher can endure through generations.

“But what a teacher builds in the heart and mind of a learner can endure for generations—the knowledge imparted, the values instilled, the confidence awakened, the dreams nurtured, and the character strengthened. These become living monuments—a legacy far more precious than gold,” Tirol said.

The University President thanked teachers for transforming classrooms into places of discovery, challenges into opportunities, and dreams into possibilities.

He underscored that behind every successful learner is often a teacher who has patiently guided, encouraged, and believed in them.

“Behind every lesson taught, a teacher prepared. Behind every student encouraged, a teacher cared. Behind every challenge overcome, there is often a teacher who refused to give up. And behind every dream that takes flight, there is a teacher who once said: ‘I believe you can,’” Tirol added.

He wrapped up his tribute by emphasizing that the greatest legacy of a teacher is not something that can be built with stone or steel, but something formed within the learner.

“After all, the greatest temple a teacher builds is not made of stone or steel. It is built within the mind and heart of a child—a temple that lives in the values they embrace, the dreams they pursue, and the person they ultimately become. It is, indeed, a child’s immortal soul,” he concluded.

Under Republic Act No. 10743, or the National Teachers’ Day Act, National Teachers’ Day is celebrated on October 5 of every year. However, to minimize additional interruptions to regular classes, the celebration was held alongside other scheduled university activities. (Leo Armando Boncales)

Sustaining its commitment to supporting cancer patients, the University of Bohol (UB) once again carried out its “Strands of Love” hair donation campaign in partnership with the Alturas Group of Companies (AGC) on October 2, 2026, at the University Instructional Research Center auditorium.

Held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the initiative brought together members of the university community and the public in a meaningful act of compassion—donating their hair to help provide wigs for cancer patients.

Volunteers of all ages donated their hair in support of the UB”s “Strands of Love” hair donation campaign.

Strands of Love is a meaningful initiative that transforms donated hair into wigs, turning a simple act of generosity into a source of confidence, comfort, and hope for individuals undergoing cancer treatment. For UB, the campaign goes beyond hair donation; it reflects the university’s continuing commitment to community extension and corporate social responsibility.

Now in its third year, UB’s participation in the campaign underscores its sustained support for cancer patients and its advocacy of compassion, solidarity, and community involvement.

The day-long activity also featured a symposium on breast cancer, with resource speakers Ms. Carmel Therese Tiu Lopez, OSCHU Nurse Manager of the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC), and Mrs. Glory Gorospe Roslinda, former Dean of the UB College of Nursing. Cancer survivors also shared their personal experiences, providing participants with greater awareness of the disease and a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those who have battled cancer.

Highlighting the program was the presence of University administrators, led by University President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III, Vice President for Administration Ria Eva M. Sevilla, and Vice President for Finance Dr. Maricel A. Tirol. Also in attendance were Ms. Grace Bernaldez, and Mr. Junrey Villasan of the Alturas Group of Companies (AGC), and Glendzy Tina A. Necesia, Miss UB Personality 2025.

More than 100 individuals donated their hair during the campaign, transforming their personal strands into a meaningful symbol of hope, compassion, and solidarity with cancer patients. As tokens of appreciation, the Alturas Group of Companies (AGC)  provided hair-care products to all donors.

Through Strands of Love, UB continues to demonstrate that even a simple gesture can make a meaningful difference—one strand, one story, and one act of kindness at a time. (Leo Armando B. Boncales)
