After days of no reported Covid cases, the streak ends today with Gov. Arthur Yap confirming the two cases in a statement.

The governor released a statement via Facebook on Thursday (June 4, 2020) evening.

In his statement, he confirmed that there are two Covid positive cases: one patient died and the other one is very well and fast recovering.

The two patients tested positive for Covid infection via the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

In a separate telephone interview, Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez, spokesman of the Capitol on Covid-related matters, said the two patients are not locally stranded individuals or overseas Filipino workers.

The governor confirmed the statement of Gov, Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) chief of hospital Dr. Mutya Kismet Macuno that a patient admitted in the hospital expired on the day of the admission. The patient was admitted for severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) case. However, the RT-PCR test results only for this patient arrived only last Thursday.

According to a Bohol Tribune source, the patient who died at the GCGMH, was admitted on May 26, 2020. The patient is from a western town in Bohol. The Bohol Tribune is withholding the information of the location of the town due to privacy concerns.

In her statement, Macuno said that contact tracing for the first and second generation contacts of the patient that passed away is now underway.

She added in her statement, that all infection control protocols have been observed and the hospital management is working closely with regional health authorities regarding the matter.

In the same statement, Gov. Yap confirmed a second case of Covid infection from Tagbilaran who is being confined now in a private hospital.

According to a reliable source, the second Covid positive patient was admitted in the hospital 10 days ago. She was tested for Covid infection during admission but the test results arrived only on Thursday.

The same source said that the patient is well and recovering and is about to be discharged.

The patient is scheduled for a second RT-PCR test soon.

The source added that contact tracing, which includes the medical staff and doctors who had contact with the patient, has been initiated.

In the governor’s statement, the private hospital where the second Covid positive case was not mentioned.

Meanwhile, Tagbilaran city mayor John Geesnell Yap II confirmed a positive Covid case coming from barangay Dao. He already ordered a lockdown in purok 2 of the said barangay.

He said contact tracing has been initiated and those who have been in contact with the Covid positive patient will be subjected to a rapid antibody test.

He bared that the patient from Dao is not the one that died at the GCGMH. The one from Dao, he said, is still in the hospital, which confirms the statement of the Bohol Tribune source in the private hospital.
