Cristal-e student shines as New Google DSC lead

Kate B. Grupp, a 2nd Year BSIT student of Cristal e-College is among the Google Developer Student Clubs (DSC) leads who participated in the annual DSC summit last August 28, 2020.

The newly selected DSC-LEAD for AY 2020-2021 is a lone delegate from Bohol representing CeC for the virtual summit.

Google is selecting students annually from all universities and colleges in South East Asia to participate in Google‘s Developer Students Club (DSC) program.

Last school year (2019-2020), Rona Rose Dalagon was the lone delegate from Bohol representing Cristal e-College among the 19-University representatives from the Philippines attending the 3-day DSC Summit held in Kuala, Lumpur, Malaysia.

This year, the conference was held virtually due to the global pandemic.

In the DSC Summit, the participants talked about the roles of the DSC leads, the mission, vision, and goals of the Developer Student Club and the contributions DSC leads can do to help not only their own campus.

During the summit, Grupp was acquainted with the DSC leads from other Southeast Asian countries who also underwent several screenings and interviews until they were shortlisted to represent their respective countries for the said gathering.

“Having been chosen as 1 of 24 DSC leads in the Philippines is such a great honor and fulfillment for me. I owe this accomplishment to the support of my family, friends, mentors and Cristal e-College. If it weren’t for their guidance, the once shy Kate wouldn’t take a risk, and I wouldn’t be the only Boholana DSC lead for AY 2020-2021. Being a DSC lead comes with responsibility. It is not all about attending webinars and pieces of training, but it also allows me to share my skills and learnings throughout the campus, not limiting to Computer Studies students. In our modern and technology-driven society, it is of great importance that we, regardless of what our programs are, learn and adapt to the usage of technological devices. As a DSC Lead, I will try my best to impart the knowledge I’ve learned, may it be related to programming, or just the basics of ICT. I am aiming to be of great assistance to students who are having a hard time in creating solutions to some societal problems. In that way, no one will be left out in this ever-changing era, and all of us would succeed in life.”, Grupp said.
