TAGBILARAN CITY DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND MANAGEMENT OFFICE (CDRRMO), NOW A DEPARTMENT. Thru an ordinance sponsored by Hon. Dulce Amelia Glovasa, the CDRRM office is now a department of its own. This was signified thru an ordinance stating that in order to effectively and efficiently carry out the disaster risk reduction and management programs and projects of the city, and in compliance with the policies set forth by the national government, there is a need to create a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in the City of Tagbilaran which shall, in coordination with the CDRRMC Council, monitor and evaluate the implementation of the CDRRM Plan and regularly review and test the plan consistent with other national and local planning programs. With this new status, CDRRM Action Officer Gerard Lavadia said they will be able the office to hire more staff since being a department entitles them to have a separate budget for personnel services, office supplies, and utility bills.

Tagbilaran wins CV Nutribalak tilt

The city of Tagbilaran wins the Central Visayas Nutribalak Competions during the 2020 Regional Virtual Grand Nutrition Awards.

The award was given on August 7, 2020, according to City Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Jeia Pondoc.

The winning balak or poem is entitled as “STUNTING”.

The poem speaks about stunted growth among children who are most often due to malnutrition.

In a radio interview, Pondoc said the she never expected that the city will capture the top prize in the said competition, which is part of the activities of the Nutrition Month this year.

The city was represented by Juanita Mahinay and supported by Rey delos Santos, the nutritionist/dietician of the city, Pondoc revealed in the radio interview.

Pondoc said that despite the pandemic Mahinay with delos Santos exerted effort to join the competition.

Moreover, Pondoc said that stunting was the focus of the Nutrition Month that is usually celebrated every July.

Mayor Yap has been focused in providing sound infrastructure ever since he assumed the top post in the City Government. To date, out of the 90.71 kms. which need to be concreted in Tagbilaran City, the City Engineering Office under the directive of Mayor Yap has concreted 61.47 kilometers of roads, not to mention the drainage system installed at strategic areas. Mayor Yap said that infrastructure will always be a priority for the City Government.

DTI turns over livelihood kits to FRs

About 44 former rebels (FR) receive livelihood kits from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at the Capitol building. The turn over of livelihood kits happened on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, a report said.

Gov. Arthur Yap led the turn over ceremonies with Vice Gov. Rene Relampagos, DTI Asst. Sec. Asteria Caberte, first district congressman Edgar Chatto, DTI-Bohol provincial director Maria Soledad Balistoy, 47th Infantry Battalion (IB) Executive Officer Maj. Mozart Jaque, and Nelson Po (representative of 2nd district congressman Erico Aristotle Aumentado), the same report said.

The livelihood kits are part of DTI’s Livelihood Seeding Program Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (LSP-PBG).

The FRs received livelihood kits containing construction materials or livestock that can be used by FRs to start a small business and augment their respective incomes.

The report said the beneficiaries of the said program come from the towns of Antequera, Loon, Calape, Balilihan, Danao, Talibon, Trinidad, Bien Unido, Alicia, Loay, Carmen, Pilar, Sevilla, Garcia-Hernandez, Guindulman, and Mabini.

All beneficiaries underwent an orientation of DTI’s services and also attended an entrepreneurship seminar. The FRs shall also attend business counseling and mentoring sessions.

In a related news, the FRs also received food packs and face masks from the office of Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.

Aside from the 44 KRs, the DTI also turned over livelihood kits to 24 FRs and 91 fire victims with a total worth P1,150,000, the same report bares.

The LBP-PBG is one of the major thrusts of the DTI in response to various livelihood needs. The program provides livelihood kits to micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs affected by disasters and the current pandemic, and to displaced workers and FRs who return to the folds of the law, the report obtained by The Bohol Tribune said.

Bohol records 6 Covid cases on Sept.6 & 8, 2020

Bohol records a total of six (6) coronavirus disease (Covid) cases on Sept. 6 & 8, 2020.

Gov. Arthur Yap, in two different statements, reports that there are five (5) new coronavirus disease (Covid) cases in Bohol. The statements were released on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020.

Yap said three (3) locally stranded individuals (LSI) are from San Miguel, one (1) LSI is from Jagna and one (1) is from Dimiao. All of them tested positive for Covid based on the report from the Bohol polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory.

All are currently in isolation as all concerned mayors have been informed of the new cases, Yap said.

He added that contact tracing activities are now being conducted.

Meanwhile, Yap in a statement reports that a person from Tubigon tests positive for Covid.

The governor released the statement on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020 through the Capitol information cluster head Kevin Damalerio.

The patient from Tubigon is considered a community transmission case as he has no travel history and neither a locally stranded individual nor an overseas Filipino worker.

The governor said in the same statement, the latest Covid patient is a product of contact tracing. He is now isolated. The patient’s close contacts are also isolated.

Currently, Mayor William Jao has been informed about the latest community transmission case. Contact tracing activities involving 1st and 2nd generation contacts are being conducted with the Rural Health Unit of Tubigon leading the activities in cooperation with the Provincial Health Office (PHO), the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) contact tracing team.

In another development, Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II reports that, currently, the city as of Sept, 9, 2020, has no active Covid cases.

The mayor made the announcement in his verified Facebook page.

The mayor said the wife of a person from another town who is working in the city has tested negative for Covid.

Moreover, he divulged that the erstwhile active case in barangay Bool has already recovered from the infection.

The person’s house companions also tested negative for the disease.

The city has a total of 42 confirmed Covid cases, and all of the cases have already recovered, with zero Covid-related deaths, as of Sept. 10, 2020.

Despite having zero active cases, the mayor said there is no reason to be confident against Covid.

The city government will continue on following the health and safety protocols until the pandemic ends.

He urged the people to wear face masks, and if possible, face shields; to observe social distancing and to practice frequent hand washing.

Alturas donates 122 eyeglasses

Reaching out to the barangay folks who are suffering from poor eyesight and other eye defects, the Alturas Group of Companies, through its Alay Marcela Foundation, Inc., continues its eye care program, dubbed as “Eye Love You”, in Brgy. Subayon, Bilar, last Friday, September 4, where 122 eye patients received free prescription eyeglasses after they underwent eye check up last February.

A part of its regular Bayanihan community outreach activity, the ongoing Alturas “Eye Love You” is highlighted by a free eye check-up and distribution of free branded prescription eyeglasses to all recipients, coordinated by Ideal Vision Center.

There are now a total of 339 beneficiaries after “Eye Love You” was conducted in Brgy. Lourdes, Cortes, last December 28; Brgy. Gabi, Ubay, last February 18; and recently in Brgy. Subayon, Bilar town coordinated by the Barangay Council, headed by Punong Barangay Fructuoso Boco.

In Brgy. Gabi, a total of 157 eye patients were checked-up by resident ophthalmologist of Ideal Vision Center, Dr. Ryan Petrolla. All of them received prescription eyeglasses which help improve their eyesight. Brgy. Capt. Rogelio Cagulangan and the council members were present during the free clinic where gift packs were also distributed with free snacks.

In Brgy. Lourdes, 60 recipients also availed themselves of free eye check-up and free prescription eyeglasses, coordinated by the Barangay Council headed by Capt. Macario Ongyot.

“Eye Love You” stems from “Oplan Sagip Mata”, a comprehensive eye care program of DOH launched by the late Senator and former Health Secretary Juan Flavier in 1993, which until now provides free operations and services to address the increasing rate of blindness in the country. It has already helped over 500,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
