For this edition of VOX POPULI, the Bohol Tribune ventured on getting the response of the netizens regarding their experience when the strong earthquake struck Bohol onOctober 15, 2013.

The question thrown to the people was this: “Unsay imong ikasulti agi ug paghinumdum sa makalilisang nga linog nga mitay-og sa Bohol pito (7) na ka tuig ang milabay?”

The netizens’ comments/answers to the question are the following:

 ▪ from Dr. Jefferson Ong: It was a surreal experience. Especially the scenario at the hospital parking lot where I attended to a dying baby with a severe head injury. No x-ray, no cardiac monitor, very few staff. Just my hand on that little chest massaging that little heart underneath hoping to give him time but that little one’s soul was called home to heaven. Meanwhile, the baby’s mother laid still on the floor of the makeshift morgue nearby, a concrete block had broken her head as she tried to carry her baby to safety at their house as it fell apart from the quake. Later I knew the baby’s father was overseas, earning what he could to prepare a good future for his child. What will he come home to? A house devoid of structure, a home no more for it too is devoid of life. When the events settled into an uneasy quiet later that morning, the aftershocks kept people on their toes. I slumped at a corner in the garden so my tears could flow and my heart unburden. In my mind, I marveled; how terribly small we are in this little corner of the earth! But how great the mercy of God who has withheld the destruction of this broken world to give the many more who survived that day, a chance return to Him like that pure soul He called home that terrible day. It’s a calling to turn to God. Like now in this pandemic.
