Mayor Baba awaits IATF rules to effect curfew changes

Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II reveals that he is waiting for the memorandum from the national Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) to effect changes in the curfew rules in the city.

This is the revelation made by the mayor to The Bohol Tribune in a text message on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020.

He said he will wait for the formal memorandum from the said agency before setting the new curfew rules in the city.

It has been reported that the IATF is looking at shortening the curfew hours.

City councilor Augustinus Gonzaga in a separate telephone interview said that a change in the curfew rules is now the call of the city mayor.

Gonzaga added that the City Council passed an ordinance back in March this year where it mandates that the power to set the curfew rules is vested on the city mayor based on the recommendations of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRMMC)

The alderman said it is up to the mayor if he will shorten the curfew hours or if he will retain the status quo where the curfew is set at 9pm to 5am the next day.

Moreover, Gonzaga said that the Sangguniang Panglungsod’s proposal to shorten the curfew remains on the table. The city council proposes that the curfew in the city will start at 11pm instead of 9pm, and the curfew will end at 5pm the next day.
