Fire victim receives help from LGU Balilihan

A Balilihan fire victim expresses his gratitude to LGU Balilihan led by Mayor Pureza Veloso-Chatto for the financial assistance he received  from the local government unit (LGU) of Balilihan, a report says.
Mayor Pureza Chatto handed the financial assistance to Doming Sitoy, a Balilihan resident whose home in barangay Del Carmen Norte was razed to the ground on Jan. 9, 2021.
The LGU has been providing cash assistance to victims of calamities both man-made and natural.
According to Fire Officer 1 Bernadette Gitigan of Balilihan Fire Station, the cause of the fire was an unattended lighted candle. 
She added that the damage to property was estimated at P70,000.
The fire officer also said that no one got injured as a result of the fire.

DOST extends help to Balilihan women’s group

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) extends its help and expertise to a project of the women’s group of the town, a report says.

DOST provincial director Vina Antopina engaged in a meeting with Mayor Pureza Chatto and discussed the launching of the Balilihan personal care products produced by the women’s groups and people’s organization of the said town.
Chatto has been extending help to the women’s groups in terms of livelihood projects.
The mayor has also been providing strong support to  a women’s organization the Balilihan Women for Development (BAWOD). BAWOD members are busy with their livelihood projects producing banana chips, squash noodles, papaya pickles, and processed meat.
Moreover, DOST has been providing projects to the town. The DOST implemented recenly the STARBOOKS program in Balilihan.
STARBOOKS is short for Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station also known as “LIBRARY IN A BOX” intended to serve as information access portals in key areas in the Philippines.
