It is possible that the next cellsite that will be built in your neighborhood might not be owned by any of the telecommunications (telco) company in the country but by the Provincial Government of Bohol.

In the latest virtual presscon on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, Gov. Arthur Yap floated the idea about the province building cellsites as long as the telco companies are willing to lease the structures.

The governor said the telco companies are glad that the provincial government is willing to consider the idea of building the cellsites for them to lease.

Yap added the telco companies will no longer have to spend more capital to build cellsites.

This scenario is a win-win solution among the province, the telco companies and the subscribers, observers say.

Telco companies may be able to provide better service without needing to spend a lot as the subscribers benefit from the improved connections.

Yap met with officials of Globe Telecoms and Smart/PLDT on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021 to discuss the connectivity issues in the province, a report from Primer says.

According to the report, the province told the telco companies about the poor internet connection and less than desirable cellular signal coverage here not to mention the frequency of dropped calls or calls that are inadvertently terminated without any reason.

The governor said that the telco companies are willing to build more cellsites here in the province. However, in certain areas, communities are opposing the building of cellsites.

“The situation is that the telco companies are very interested. Apan nangayo sila ug tabang kay in certain areas, in certain municipalities and certain barangays na ang mga tawo sila ang nag oppose, sila ang ni-object sa planong magtukod or dungangan ang pagtukod sa mga cellsites,” the governor bared.

Moreover, the governor revealed that the provincial government is willing to assist the telco companies in securing the needed licenses and permits from the local government units (LGU) and to help in the information dissemination in local communities discussing the importance of having cellsites as means to improve connectivity.
