The proposal of the Petrogreen Energy Corporation (PGEC) to develop a solar Photovoltaic (PV) power plant in San Vicente, Dagohoy, Bohol, was endorsed by Vice Governor Rene Lopez Relampagos and the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Bohol through a resolution approved on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, reports say.
The SP is endorsing the said solar power project to the Department of Energy (DOE), the same report adds.
The said resolution was based on a recommendation by the Committee on Public Utilities and Franchises chaired by Board Member Romulo Cepedoza after it was thoroughly discussed in a meeting with the committee members and Petrogreen Energy Corporation representatives.
Prior to the approval of the resolution, separate studies/reviews were conducted by the Bohol Energy Development Advisory Group (BEDAG) and Provincial Development Council (PDC) Executive Committee wherein they have issued separate resolutions endorsing the proposal of Petrogreen Energy Corporation to the SP.
The resolutions of the BEDAG and the PDC, further recommend that the SP endorse the said project to the DOE.
According to the report, Petrogreen Energy Corporation has proposed to develop a solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Dagohoy, Bohol with a peak capacity of 20 megawatts (MW).
The proposed solar power plant is projected to produce an average of power capacity ranging from 10 to 15 MW, depending on the availability of sunlight.
Petrogreen Energy Corporation has further assured that it has already established the same solar PV projects in the Luzon areas.
It is operating a 20 MW solar project in Tarlac. Petrogreen Energy Corporation looks to use bring the technolohy it has been using in the Tarlac plant to the proposed plant that will be hopefully built in Dagohoy town.
According to a study, Bohol has abundant solar energy resources with annual global horizontal irradiance ranging from 1500 to 1900 kilowatt-hours per square meter.
At present, the province has a 16 MW grid-connected diesel-fueled power plant in barangay Dampas, Tagbilaran City, and three mini-hydro projects located in the Loboc watershed.
Moreover, Bohol is limked to the country’s power grid through Leyte-Bohol Interconnection from which more than two-thirds of the province’s supply comes from.
Electricity in Bohol is being distributed by three distribution utilities namely: Bohol Light Company, Inc. (BLCI), Bohol Electric Cooperative 1 (BOHECO 1), and Bohol Electric Cooperative 2 (BOHECO 2).
