A Flicker of Hope this September

I would not miss seeing “Huwag Kang Mangamba” at the Kapamilya channel.  It’s my way of bolstering my spirit amidst this pandemic after I view newscasts about how the delta variant is fast on its claws trying to victimize people. As the news says, Covid positive cases are increasing, not just in NCR, Cebu, and CDO but also in Tuguegarao and Ilioilo. “Huwag Kang Mangamba” always rekindles my faith and trust in the Lord up above.

However, I just don’t understand why some people are very inconsiderate nowadays as they flaunt on their confidence especially in the way they go around making lusot aron maka pamiyesta ug maka suroy suroy. Ngano man? Nganong makalusot man gyud?

The himala in Huwag Kang Mangamba” is just sleeping in our hearts if you raise hope and put such himala in the forefront of our lives. As the song goes, “There can be miracles, if you believe!”

A simple message sent to me by my nephew Andy – everyday – is a kind of himala for me. It starts my day with a dose of hope that one of these days – soon – Covid shall have been over. Please, make it over! That will be the time when we will have the opportunity (again) to see and bond together as one big family with celebrations of birthdays, anniversaries and yearly reunions remembering our loved ones who have passed on ahead of us.

I am sure that like me, you also miss seeing friends in church, participating in the rites and activities on Christmas time and the Semana Santa.  Two years of not being able to see friends in usual venues create a constant longing of hope.

On August 25, 2021, Andy sent me this message: Days are made by God to make us fall in love with life, not just once but again and again. Days are created for us to see the beauty of life and to know that there are people who care and pray for you to be happy.” What a touching message from a young man like Andy. And he never misses to send me words everyday.

Going back to “Huwag Kang Mangamba”, may I know if you still remember Santino? I cannot remember the title of the series but the lesson learned from the series remains imprinted in our mind.  Filipinos far and near subscribed to the Filipino channel to trail the teleserye.  Same is true with “Huwag Kang Mangamba”.  It’s something light to the emotion but heavy with life’s lessons.  Viewing the teleserye would, at the same time, make you analyze certain situations and make you ponder on who could be the daughter of Ate Barang. Is it Eva?

As September is forthcoming, let’s start the month with the feeling of hope.  The indicators are here. Reproduction rate of Covid has decreased in NCR and CDO and there’s so much to hope for.  Never mind who is running for president or vice president.  Come election, we will just exercise our sacred right to vote and pray for the leaders who can truly serve the Filipino people.

By the way, two classmates of mine are celebrating their birthdays today: Grace Bonje – Tirol and Carolina Corpus Zapatos.  We are going on 80 now but we still feel young at heart as if we were still there at St. Joseph College, our alma mater.  Carol has just left us for eternity and is already in God’s embrace.  Grace is just the same: petite and still the graceful grace who was once a member of University of San Carlos dance troupe.
