Balilihan celebrates 193 years of progress & development

(Part 1)

The town of Balilihan is about to celebrate its 193rd birthday and the people of this town have plenty to celebrate despite the challenges and trials brought about by the pandemic. The town has blossomed into a strategic area in Bohol, with a great potential to become an agro-industrial hub of the province.

Municipal Officials and employees gathered early in the morning of September 18, 2021 to clean the municipal premises of plastics and various forms of garbage. Balilihan has been an awardee in Ecological Solid Waste Management Best Practices in the Province of Bohol for a number of years.

With the leadership of its mayor, Pureza Veloso-Chatto, the town is looking forward to a brighter future – a future that is filled with great potential and vast improvement in the quality of the life of its residents.

In the past few years, Balilihan made its roads towards progress and development. The Ballilihan Greenfields brand and the Balilihan Kinaham food items are just the innovations the town has been embarking on as a way for the people to earn a living and to provide a brighter future for the next generation.

Senior Citizens and PWD Center – constructed using local funds. It has a conference room, office space, small pantry and his and her Comfort Room.

Balilihan today is transforming itself from a rural area and aspiring to become a hugely developed area. Its location in the Bohol heart land makes the town a viable market hub for agricultural products from other towns.

A visionary, Mayor Chatto, has been pursuing a myriad of industries to help people here with their livelihood.

A major concern of Balilihan is the provision of level III water supply to all constituents. With limited funds, we the LGU had to source out funds from national government and address the problem by phases based on a crafted 25 year Water Master Plan. We rehabilitated our existing pumping units and some distribution pipes using our 20% Development Fund and LGSF funds (BUB, ADM and AM) and Salintubig. Presently, we have an ongoing construction of a 95M pesos Balilihan Centralized Bulk Water Supply with Bugwak Spring as our primary source of water. The project includes four new water reservoirs and transmission pipes from the source to the new and the existing water reservoirs of our Balilihan Waterworks. Much has yet to be done though- rehabilitation of the remaining distribution pipes in order to fully serve the water needs of our constituents.

As the town celebrates its foundation anniversary, Balilihan is poised to embrace the development based on improved peace and order. The development of the town, no doubt, is being initiated by leaders who have nothing in mind but what is best for the town.

In the future, a stronger and more vibrant Balilihan will emerge. The town will be banking on its strengths and will try to convert its areas of improvement into opportunities.

Municipal Slaughter house

A common livelihood in our town is backyard hog raising. This particular source of income of a good number of our hog raisers has been greatly affected by the pandemic as fiestas and other big celebrations have been prohibited. With a municipal slaughterhouse, now almost fully completed, it is a dream of the LGU to venture into meat processing.

The town’s founders sought to carve a town dedicated to the common good—193 years ago—the town will be heading to the future with great aspirations and goals. As the town embarks on a journey towards the future—Balilihan will be true to its nature of putting the people’s welfare, pursuing happiness and an improved quality of life.

Come and celebrate 193 years of community, service and love, which one can find only in the town of Balilihan, Bohol.
