What is a better way to celebrate one’s birthday than to give back what is needed most for the environment and the community? That was what City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II did a day before his birthday, on Oct. 15, 2021.

Together with Tagbilaran City’s First Lady Jane Yap, Bishop Alberto “Abet” Uy, and the department heads from the City Government, the whole team, bringing saplings, lined up the street leading to the dumpsite in Brgy. Dampas.

The entire group conducted a tree planting activity near the old garbage dumpsite in barangay Dampas.

After the said event, a feeding program was conducted among some of the city’s disadvantaged children.

Mayor Yap said this year’s birthday celebration was memorable as that was his last birthday celebration in office of the Mayor of the city..

The team from the City Hall also surprised Mayor Yap with a cake, the City Media Bureau reports.

Mayor Yap’s birthday celebrations have always been held during the City Government’s Family Day, but due to the health crisis besetting us, the local chief executive opted to celebrate his natal day differently, this year.

Mayor Yap noted that one of the core agenda of his administration as the local chief executive is to protect the environment, which is also in line with the clamor of the Tagbilaranons to sustainably manage the City’s natural resources.
