Third district Rep. Kristine Alexie Tutor revealed that she is planning to consult local leaders such as those in the barangays in relation to the idea of additional congressional districts for Bohol.
She revealed this in an interview at the sidelines of the provincial congress of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) for 3rd district barangay officials on May 30, 2022.
“Mu-undergo pa na ug through consultative process,” Tutor said.
She added that aside from the members of the LnB, there is a need to consult the members of the local chapter of the Philipppine Councilors’ League (PCL) and the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) regarding the plan to add another district here in the province.
The plan for another district will then be submitted to the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) for their endorsement to Congress.
As of the moment, incoming membership of the SP is slightly in favor of Pundok Padayon Bol-anon, the coaltion led by Gov. Arthur Yap.
However, this is expected to change once the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will push through in December 2022.
Two ex-officio members of the SP come from the LnB and the SK.
According to the 1987 Constitution, one legislative district shall represent 250,000 people.
Based on the 2020 Census, the population of Bohol is at 1,394,329, which means the province is eligible to have 5 districts.
Currently, Bohol has 3 districts, Cong. Edgar Chatto is the incumbent and re-elected 1st district representative, Maria Vanessa Aumentado is the incoming 2nd district representative and Tutor is the re-elected 3rd district congresswoman.
