A shanty in Dauis was razed to the ground due to allegedly unattended lighted candle in the evening of July 4, 2022, according to reports.

Fire Officer 3 Mark Lister Usaraga of Dauis Fire Station said that the shanty located at barangay Totolan was owned by a certain Giovanni Pastorpede.

According to reports, no other house nearby was affected by the fire.

The fire station received information about the fire at around 9:30 pm and it took firefighters around 3 minutes to put the blaze under control, Usaraga revealed.

He said the fire was caused by an unattended lighted candle as the houseowner’s 14-year-old son left the house.

The damage to property was estimated to be around P30,000 with no reported casualty

Meanwhile, Dauis vice mayor Marietta Sumaylo immediately responded to the incident and provided financial assistance plus one sack of rice to the fire victims, based on a post from the vice mayor’s Facebook page.

As this developed, the vice mayor reminded the public to be vigilant in order to prevent fires from happening. (Joshua Fullido)
