Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) spokesman Lt. Thomas Cheung says that the series of robberies that happened in the province in a span of few weeks is indeed alarming both for the community and even the police force.
This was his statement during a radio interview over Open Forum on Aug. 4, 2022, hosted by the sister tandem of Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Gloria Araneta.
Cheung said that even if the police have beat patrols and checkpoints, the criminal elements are still looking for ways to perpetrate their nefarious activities.
He added that police presence is not always visible thus the criminals are taking advantage of the opportunities when the cops are absent.
For this reason, the police need the help of the community to curb criminal activity, Cheung said.
Meanwhile, Cheung reiterated that the person who engaged in a firefight with the Alicia police on July 29, 2022 was a possible robbery suspect.
The police are still conducting an investigation regarding the possible links of the person who was killed in a shootout with the police to the series of robberies that happened in the province.
It can be remembered that a certain Victor Aguilar of Sagasa, Balilihan engaged in a firefight with the police in Alicia where Aguilar was killed in the encounter.
Cheung said that while Aguilar’s link to the robbery is still being determined, there is a possibility that the latter is involved in the said robbery based on the messages found in the suspect’s cellphones that were recovered by the police.
