Bohol’s pride Regie “The Filipino Phenom” Suganob has successfully defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global Light Flyweight belt against his Japanese opponent Kai Ishizawa in the main event fight of Kumong Bol-anon XV on April 30, 2024, held at Barders Gym of Holy Name University, Tagbilaran City.

The 26-year-old Suganob knocked down Ishizawa twice during the eighth round of their boxing match, leading to a victory via technical knockout (TKO) despite being bloodied after suffering a large forehead wound due to an accidental headbutt in the first round of the match.

Due to the successive blows from Suganob, Ishizawa needed medical attention and was stretchered off to be examined by doctors.

Suganob now has a record of 15 wins, 5 knockouts, and 1 loss, while Ishizawa has a record of 11-4 win-loss with 10 knockouts.

For the first time, the Suganob vs. Ishizawa fight was broadcast live on the government channel PTV 4, bringing great joy to Filipinos as they got their revenge against the Japanese, as there were also Filipino boxers who consecutively lost in Japan.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event fight, Shane Gentallan from Maribojoc, Bohol won against his Indonesian opponent Wandi Priman Hulu in their 8 rounds, 106 lbs boxing fight.

In the supporting bout for the Female Philippine Light Flyweight Belt fight, the match between Althea Shine Porres from Claveria, Misamis Oriental and Renz Dacquel from Manila ended in a split draw in their 6 rounds, 108 lbs boxing fight. Consequently, the Female Philippine belt remains vacant.

Also victorious were Sugarey Leonard Porres from Claveria, Misamis Oriental against Roel Julian from Bukidnon Province in their 6 rounds, 112 lbs fight.

Arlando Senoc from Big Yellow Boxing Stable also won against Kier Torregosa from Buenavista, Bohol in 6 rounds, 112 lbs, and Leonard Porres from Claveria, Misamis Oriental also won against Jaren Jase Guarin from Haiyan Punch Boxing Tacloban in a 4 rounds, 112 lbs boxing fight.

Kumong Bol-anon XV is part of the Saulog Festival Activities of the local government of Tagbilaran for the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker.

Atty. Floriezyl Podot, the promoter of PMI Boxing Promotions, revealed that Kumong Bol-anon XVI is scheduled for July 2024 as part of the Sandugo Festival activities.
