Tagbilaran becomes the first city outside Metro Manila and the first city in the Visayas to adopt the PalengQR Ph Program.

Tagbilaran’s public market was the site of the launch of the digital payment system, done on Jan. 10, 2023, allowing consumers to pay for goods using their digital wallets.

Mayor Yap said that the transactions at the public market will now be easier, and faster. Moreover, she said that the payments for the tricycles will be more convenient with the new digital payments platform. The platform gathers major digital wallets and some banks to make the payment system run.

The said launch activity was attended by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.

It should be known that the Paleng-QR program is jointly developed by the BSP and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) which aims to build the digital payments ecosystem in the country by promoting cashless payments in public markets and local transportation, particularly tricycles that ply city’s streets.
