The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released the official calendar of activities for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), which will be held on October 30.

According to Comelec Resolution No. 10964, the election period will start on July 3 and end on November 9. During this period, certain acts such as carrying firearms, transferring voters, suspending public officials, and holding rallies are prohibited.

Candidates for barangay and SK positions can file their certificates of candidacy (COCs) from July 3 to 7. The campaign period will run from September 29 to October 28. Decision day is on October 30, 2023.

The BSKE was originally scheduled for December 5, 2022 but was postponed to October 30, 2023 by virtue of Republic Act No. 11935. The law also extended the term of office of incumbent barangay and SK officials until December 31, 2023.

The Comelec said that it expects around 60 million voters to participate in the BSKE, which is considered as the “grassroots level” of governance in the country.

The poll body also urged eligible voters to register before September 30 this year.
