Bohol is positioning itself as a center for English as a Second Language (ESL) and is planning to carve a niche in the education tourism industry, especially for students coming from Japan, China, and Taiwan.
Governor Aris Aumentado met with Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 7 Chief Tourism Operations Officer Gelena Asis-Dimpas together with DOT Central Office Senior Tourism Operations Officer Marissa Añonevo Masangkay in a courtesy visit to discuss plans for the province.
Before the pandemic, the country was the world’s 5th largest ESL provider.
Before the pandemic, the Philippines was considered the world’s fifth-largest ESL provider and according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).
The country is still considered as the fifth-largest ESL provider in the world even during the pandemic.
However, the country’s ranking has dropped to 18th in 2021 from 13th in 2016.
