IBP-BOHOL HOSTS ORIENTATION OF NEW LAWYERS AND CAREER TALK

One of the traditional and institutional activities of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-
Bohol Chapter (“IBP-Bohol”) is the Orientation of New Lawyers/Career Talk. Aside from holding
a formal event honoring new lawyers for their feat of hurdling the difficult Bar Examinations, the
new members of the profession are given a glimpse of what lies ahead in their respective legal
careers. While most will venture into private practice, some will consider a career in
government. Hence, for this year, both private practitioners and lawyers in government were
invited as resource speakers.
This year’s Orientation of New Lawyers/Career Talk was held at Panda Tea Garden in
Brgy. Dao, Tagbilaran City, yesterday, 08 July 2023, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The activity started
with an Invocation, singing of the National Anthem, Awit sa Bohol, and the IBP March. Yours
truly welcomed the participants extolling the virtue of selflessness in serving the country and
doing good while doing well in their respective legal careers.
Past President, Atty. Mitchell John L. Boiser, delivered a Talk about the IBP-National and
the IBP-Bohol Chapter. During the term of Atty. Boiser from 2009-2011, the IBP-Bohol was
awarded as Outstanding Chapter and was the last time the Province of Bohol hosted a Regional
Convention of Lawyers. Atty. Vincent Louie A. Raotraot delivered a talk giving guidance on the
2004 Rules on Notarial Practice. Prosecutor Julius R. Cesar, Assistant City Prosecutor of
Tagbilaran City, delivered a talk entitled “Building a Career in Government”. Prosecutor Cesar
was formerly a Legal Consultant of the Provincial Legal Office and Public Attorney at the Public
Attorney’s Office before becoming a public prosecutor.
Atty. Lady Victoria M. Dejaňo, IBP-Bohol Secretary, serenaded the participants with an
intermission number. IBP-Bohol Vice President and Chairperson of the Legal Aid Committee,
Atty. John Jeric S. Lim, delivered a talk entitled “Sink-or-Swim: How to Survive in the Private
Practice” to boost the confidence of aspiring private practitioners. IBP-Bohol Director, Atty. Ruby
Rose R. Maligmat-Guimerey delivered the closing remarks. The event was ably hosted by IBP-
Bohol Director, Atty. Jervis Clifford C. Vertulfo.
