In a statement released by PMI Bohol Boxing Stable, Filipino boxer Regie Suganob has
alleged that he was subjected to unfair treatment during his recent boxing match in
South Africa.
Suganob lost to South African boxer Sivenathi Nontshinga by unanimous decision in a
12-round IBF World Light Flyweight title fight on July 2.
However, Suganob’s team has raised concerns about a number of issues leading up to
and during the fight, including:
The fight was originally scheduled for June 16, but was postponed to July 2 due
to a lack of available time slots on television.
Suganob’s team was not given enough time to adjust to the time difference
between the Philippines and South Africa.
The hotel that Suganob’s team was staying in was not ready when they arrived.
Suganob was not given any opportunities to train or spar before the fight.
The officials for the fight were changed at the last minute, and the referee did not
do enough to keep the fight from becoming a running match.
There were intoxicated people in the venue who were harassing Suganob’s
team.
Suganob’s purse was not paid in full after the fight.
Suganob’s team is calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding
the fight.
The team said they believe that Suganob was unfairly treated and that he would have
won the fight if he had been given a fair chance.
In the statement, Suganob said, “I am not discouraged by this loss. I know that I am the
better boxer and that I will win the next time we fight. I am grateful for the support of my
fans and I will continue to train hard until I become a world champion.”
Suganob’s team is also calling for a rematch between Suganob and Nontshinga, but
only if the fight is held in a neutral venue.
The team said they believe that Nontshinga would not have been able to win the fight if
it had been held on a level playing field.
