Truck plunges into river after brake failure in Batuan

A loaded truck fell into the Makapiko river in Batuan town on September 30, 2023, after its brakes failed and it lost control on a bridge.

The truck driver, Raul Mondero, and his companion, Nino Valles, both from Daan Bantayan, Cebu province, were on their way to Poblacion of Batuan from Balilihan when the accident happened.

According to witnesses, the truck could not slow down as it approached the bridge and hit a curve.

The truck then flipped over the railing and landed in the river below. A parked motorcycle was also damaged by the truck.

The two occupants of the truck were able to escape with minor injuries. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the brake failure and the extent of the damage caused by the accident.
